The brilliant pioneer of flight, Amelia Earhart, once said, “Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release from little things.” I love both parts of this quote, especially the last part because it’s lesser known but so very true. It got me thinking about what it takes to live a life of authenticity, one of the hallmarks of courage.
As I turn 50 this year, my life feels as if it’s just beginning. Though I’ve never been afraid of growing old,
I must admit that I can’t believe I’m 50. It’s a milestone. I’ve had many stones in my path to reach this point in my life. Some of have been small and could be easily moved out of my way. Others have been much larger and have required all of my resources—and the support of others—so I could continue on my path.
Large or small, invited or not, the changes I’ve experienced in my life so far have required courage. What often blocks us from living the lives we want is not trusting ourselves. We are each born with the amazing gift of intuition. When we listen to this inner knowing, it unfailingly tells us what is right for us.
It is indeed the foundation of our personal power and truth.
Like a pilot who has been grounded from flying, when we ignore our intuition, we become grounded from living the way we could—with faith in ourselves and in the goodness that’s ours if we would only claim it. Listening to our intuition is important, but it’s only part of the picture. Acting on intuition is what it takes to truly develop trust in ourselves. It takes courage to rise above our past and limiting beliefs that prevent us from living the joy that is our birthright and readily available right now in this moment.
Sometimes acting on intuition means that you tell someone that they’ve hurt you instead of remaining silent. Sometimes it means that you discover that the work you’ve done up to this point is what others expected of you and that it’s time to make a change that fits your vision. Whether our actions seem major or minor, what matters is that they are expressions of heart and soul.
I’ve given myself the challenge of “50 Acts of Courage” for the coming year. I invite you to join me on the runway of your spirit by sharing your acts of courage. Whether we’re just ready for takeoff or already flying high, no act is too small or large in fueling the flight of our souls. Inspire and be inspired here.
Love and Light,
Marion
